To start off first, Happy New Year and Congratulations on having Google AdSense approved on your awesome WordPress blog.

Now getting AdSense ads approved to show on your blog is one thing. But getting them to show up effectively wherever you need them to, is entirely another.

Trust me, it can be quite a challenge, confusing and even frustrating if you don’t know-how.

But to make it easier for you, in this post, I will show you how to go about adding Google AdSense Ads easily, not only in your WordPress blog but also within your blog posts.

And so, with no further delay, let’s get started.

How To Add Google AdSense Ads In Your WordPress Blog In 2020.

Now there are two ways you can go about doing this; using a WordPress plugin or letting Google do it all/some (if you mix both approaches) for you.

Either way, both approaches will work, in monetizing your blog.

How To Add AdSense Ads Manually In Your Blog.

The first approach we shall look at is how you can add AdSense ads in specific areas on your blog, using a plugin.

And the WordPress plugin in question is none other than Advanced Ads.

Advanced Ads Wp Plugin

Advanced Ads put simply, is an Ad manager and Ad serving solution for WordPress users.

This means you can easily serve/inject different Ad types from major ad networks (AdSense etc.) and affiliate companies on your blog while maintaining full control of their placement.

You can even rotate different Ads on the same Ad spot, geo-target users to serve relevant ads, and track those Ads to see how well they’re performing.

So download Advanced Ads and install it for the following steps.

You can read this post if you don’t know how to install WordPress plugins.

Once done, go to Advanced Ads > Settings.

Then click on the “AdSense” tab, and connect your AdSense account.

Connect Advanced Ads with AdSense

Once done, it should look like so below.

Note: You can check the Auto ads verification code option if you intend on using Auto Ads on your blog.

Now log into your Google AdSense account, click on Ads, and then “By ad unit” tab.

Google AdSense Create Responsive Ad

Next click on the recommended Display ads option, which’s also Amp compatible, to proceed on to the ad creation page.

Once there, “Title” your Ad, preview the Ad look in all formats; square, horizontal and vertical, and when satisfied, click on the “CREATE” button to create your Ad.

Note: Try to name your Ads descriptively to better identify their performance later. eg. Blog_Top_Ad/Blog_Top_Ad_Amp, etc.

On the Code generator page, you’ll get an HTML Ad code to copy and paste wherever it is you want AdSense ads to show on your blog.

You don’t have to copy the code though as Advanced Ads will do it for you, just click on the “DONE” button to finish the Ad creation process.

Note: If you’re creating this Ad for your Amp site, switch over to the Amp tab before copying.

Next, back in your Wp dashboard, got to Advanced Ads > Ads.

This will take you to Ads creation interface, from where you’ll be able to create different Ad types from plain text and images to code (JS, HTML, PHP).

First, “Title” your Ad, choose the “AdSense Ad” option and click on the “Next” button to proceed (usually proceeds automatically).

Create A New Ad With Advanced Ads

On the Ad parameters window, find the Ad you just created, select it, and click on the “Next” button to proceed.

The next step will be specifying “Display Conditions” for the Ad.

This is where you’ll make any preferences you might have for where, when, and who you’d want to see your ad.

For now, just click on the “Next” button to proceed to Placements.

Note: First make sure the Ad shows up before specifying any conditions. This will help prevent frustrations from thinking the plugin doesn’t work because of wrong conditional requests.

On the Placements page, choose a “New Placement” position for the ad you just created by simply clicking on the option.

You can also, alternatively, copy the shortcode given (see the picture above) and manually paste it wherever you want the Ad to show on your blog.

At this point, your Ad should be live on your blog. Injected automatically at the location you appropriated above.

Ad placement adjustments

You can further Adjust the Ad placement by clicking on the “Adjust the placement options” button.

This will take you to the Advanced Ads > Placements page.

Ad placement customization options

From there, click on the “show all options” link corresponding to the Placement you just created in the steps above, to reveal more customization options.

You can create even more Placements as shown in the picture above using the same Ad. And delete placements you no longer need.

Note: Always make sure you Save any changes to the Placements you make.

That’s it!

And even though this is a simple Advanced Ads tutorial,  it’ll suffice in removing any beginner confusion and get you started with confidence.

Even so, take some time to experiment with all the options present to better understand how the plugin works, and what you can and can’t do with it.

In the next section, I will show you how to let Google do it all for you so that you have the flexibility of choice options.

How To Add Google AdSense Ads Automatically In Your Blog.

If you checked the Auto Ads verification code option in the previous section, then you’re all set. If not, kindly do so now.

Now go into your Google AdSense account and click on Ads.

And while still on the “By site” tab option, find your site by domain name listed under “All your sites” section, and click on its “Edit” option.

Google AdSense Auto Ads Page

On the following page, on your right, you’ll see more Ad options to tell Google what you want and don’t want in relation to ad formats, ad loads, and page exclusions.

So adjust the auto ads options, as you see fit for your blog, and when done click on the “Appy to site” button to finish the setup and switch ON the ads.
